- 工作草案:2026 年;
- 外部征求意见:2026 年;
- 最终验证:2027 年;
- 翻译及支持文件:2027 年——中文版正好卡在这一步;
- 做一次五重点自查:软件、下级供应商、投产与变更、CSR 四条线,各写出现状与差距;
- 把 CSR 盘清楚:按客户逐家列出适用版本、生效日期,确认是否已传递到下级供应商;
- 补软件与变更管理短板:嵌入式软件的需求、验证、发布、变更记录是否闭环;
- 别急着问认证机构要排期:新版正式发布前无法开展转版审核,现有证书过渡期内仍有效,先把内部差距排好更划算。
▌ 一句提醒
官方中文版发布之前,市面上任何自称“第二版中文版”的材料都不是授权译本。IATF 在 SC-2022-002 中已明确:只能使用 IATF 批准的出版物版本。译文质量直接决定你理解的是标准,还是别人的理解。

On 21 October, at the IATF meeting in Paris, Geely Holding Group was granted the official Chinese translation authorization for IATF 16949 2nd Edition following a formal vote by the International Automotive Task Force. The new edition is planned for global release in mid-2027. For the Chinese automotive supply chain, the real significance is not the headline itself but the fact that the countdown to transition has moved from "rumour" to "published schedule".
▌ What exactly was authorized
The authorization covers the official Chinese translation — not the standard itself, and not the certification rules. Only the English original of IATF standards and rules is authoritative; translated versions are authorized translations. Chinese-speaking users have long faced a choice between waiting for a translation or reading English and paraphrasing it themselves, and that is precisely where version and interpretation gaps come from. The IATF Chairman said after the vote that Geely's industry experience and involvement would help ensure a high-quality and consistent Chinese translation.
One clarification: as of publication, the latest entry on the IATF website's communiqué page is still Stakeholder Communiqué SC-2026-005 (2nd Edition status update, July 2026). This translation authorization was announced by Geely; IATF has not yet posted a corresponding notice on its website. Final wording on the standard and its dates remains subject to official IATF release.
▌ The official timeline: five steps to mid-2027
SC-2026-005 sets out the overall plan below, expressly noting that it reflects current planning and may change as the project progresses:
- Working draft: 2026;
- External stakeholder consultation: 2026;
- Final validation: 2027;
- Translation and supporting documents: 2027 — the Chinese version sits exactly at this step;
- Planned publication: mid-2027.
On transition, IATF states only that the end of the transition period will align with that of ISO 9001. ISO 9001:2026 was published in September 2026; on a three-year transition that lands on 30 September 2029. In other words, 2016 certificates remain valid during the transition, but there is no longer room to postpone the question of when to start preparing.
▌ What the 2nd Edition changes: five priorities
- Simplification, clarity and efficiency: reduce unnecessary complexity, narrow differences in how requirements are interpreted, and avoid duplicating ISO 9001. The underlying principle is simplification, not added burden.
- Software quality assurance: apply existing quality management principles across the embedded software lifecycle — from requirements and development to verification and change — rather than building a parallel system.
- Tier N supply chain management: strengthen management of lower-tier suppliers, promote a consistent risk-based approach, and ensure customer requirements flow down and communication works across tiers.
- Launch management: product and process launches are among the highest-risk phases in the lifecycle, so the new edition expects a more systematic new-product introduction approach, stronger change management and stronger industrialization activities.
- Customer-specific requirements (CSRs): improve how applicable CSRs are identified, strengthen CSR management, distil common requirements across OEMs where possible, and bring common CSRs into the standard itself where feasible.
▌ Four things suppliers can do now
The standard is not published yet, but preparation can start immediately — and it does not begin with rewriting documentation:
- Run a five-priority self-assessment: document your current state and gaps in software, lower-tier suppliers, launch and change management, and CSRs to build a transition readiness picture;
- Map your CSRs: list the applicable version and effective date per customer, and confirm whether requirements have been passed down to sub-tier suppliers — historically the most frequent source of nonconformities;
- Close software and change management gaps: closed-loop records for embedded software requirements, verification, release and change matter far more than having a procedure document on file;
- Do not chase certification body slots yet: transition audits cannot start before publication. Existing certificates remain valid during the transition, so internal gap analysis and resourcing are the better use of the time.
▌ One caution
Until the official Chinese edition is released, any material marketed as a "2nd Edition Chinese version" is not an authorized translation. IATF made this explicit in SC-2022-002: only IATF-approved publications may be used. Translation quality determines whether you are implementing the standard — or someone's interpretation of it.
